Jason Quirk was born in Australia. Began writing video reviews at fifteen for The Sunday Mail newspaper in Adelaide. Worked as a gofer for advertising film crews as well as a clerk for a short time for 20th Century Fox. Also wrote film reviews for The Sunday Mail in Brisbane.

Jason Quirk worked as a journalist on and off for 20 years in Adelaide, Brisbane and London. In his youth he was a tender driver at the yacht squadron in Adelaide then worked with the mentally ill for 15 years in the precursor to the National Disability Insurance Scheme, while walking dogs to make a living.
He wrote a column reviewing videos and albums as a fifteen year old.
He has a degree in journalism, movies and politics.
