Name: Amanda
Age: 34
Occupation: Marketing and Comms Consultant
Favourite Movie: The Sound of Music (1965)
First Saw It: When I was really little on tv. I must have been five with my mum at home one night and it went for hours
Starring: Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer, Eleanor Parker, Richard Haydn and, of course, the children
Plot: A Rodgers and Hammerstein musical based on the Von Trapp family as they flee Nazi Germany just before the outbreak of World War II.

Amanda Says: I have seen this movie so many times that I couldn’t tell you. Obviously I love the music – that is numero uno! I like how it is like a play and it’s as if you are watching it on the stage. And I love how it has an intermission – that’s something that really set it apart. I like the length – that it was nearly four hours (with advertisements) and I’d have all that time to myself to watch the film. I love the setting so much that I went on The Sound of Music Tour in Europe five years ago. No one wanted to come with me but the tour was full. I love Julie Andrews… her voice is the best! I love her in every film and after seeing The Sound of Music I watched Mary Poppins and Victor/Victoria. I’ve watched it with my grandparents… it was the gift that kept on giving! My favourite songs are Lonely Goat Herd and Confidence. The character I would like to be is Maria as she gets all the best musical numbers. I think that it’s served its purpose over the years, as it’s educational about the war and gave people an escape as well.
