Name: Geoff
Age: 71
Occupation: Retired Detective Sergeant
Favourite Movie: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966)
First Saw: At a suburban cinema when I was in my early 20s.
Starring: Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef and Eli Wallach
Plot: The third in Leone’s Dollars Trilogy has three low-life types as they each try to find a hidden cache of Confederate gold.

I just liked a couple of actors in it: Clint Eastwood and Lee Van Cleef. I like their acting and the music themes. I like the way Clint Eastwood did his moves and the way he spoke. His drawl… his laid back sort of tough mean critter. And Van Cleef… I liked the mean look of him… he had that mean streak that came across, an underlying mean streak. I didn’t find it too long (it runs over 160 minutes) as I like my westerns and didn’t lose interest. My dad used to take me to the western night – that was Wednesday night – at the Hectorville Starline drive-in. I liked westerns for the horses cos I rode a lot and they have different gaits and how they galloped and the way they rode and the different styles. The gunfights were interesting… I’ve never been into guns, even as a policeman, they never turned me on. I don’t think the norm would be interested in this movie today… it’s a different world when that came out… if you’re not interested in horses or guns… it’s all cars!
